These days, you can’t glance at the New York Times Bestseller List without coming across a book with the word “Skinny” in the title. Skinny Bitch, Skinny Girl, Skinny Italian….You name it, and someone is making it anorexic. Coming up on the weekend, I have decided to pen my much more practical version (to Chicagoans anyway), Skinny Drunk. Sure I would love to know how French women stay so thin, or how Bethenny Frankel has gotten so fit post baby, and even how Teresa Guidice eats all of those a-meat-a-balls and stays so thin (she can write?), but even more so, I would enjoy information on how to be tipsy and thin….Insert spray tan, and that equals a recipe for a good Friday night. Here are a few excerpts from my upcoming literary work, inspired by Lindsay Lohan*:

Recipies:

Skinny Drunk Margarita -You may be familiar with the Skinny Girl Margarita, but having sampled this, I can assure you that the Skinny Drunk version is much tastier and lower cal.

You will need:

1 Packet of Market Pantry Lime Margarita Drink Mix (found at your local Target)

Lime Wedges

Rimming Salt

Ice

3/4 Cup of Cold Water

1/4 Cup of Tequilla

Rub the rim of a large margarita glass with a lime wedge, dip glass in salt and then add ice. Add 1 packet of the margarita mix, water and tequilla. Mix and enjoy.

Total Calories: 130 ( tequilla 125 cals, mix 5 cals). A traditional Margarita can run anywhere from 300-800 calories

Skinny Drunk Cosmo Although this is not the trendy, glam drink it once was during the Carrie Bradshaw era, there is nothing like watching a chick flick and drinking some cosmos to introduce a theme to an otherwise mundane evening at home.

You will need:

1 oz Citron Vodka

1 oz Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Light

1 oz Triple Sec

1 oz Lime Juice

Ice

Mix Ingredients, shake with ice, enjoy!

Total Calories: 124 ( Cran Juice 5 cal, Citron Vodka 66 cal, Triple Sec 45 cal, Lime Juice 8 cal ) *Ocean Spray Light Cranberry Juice is also great for Vodka Crans, as it only has 40 cals per serving

THE Skinny Bitch – Long before the book came out, my cousin Matt was on a campaign to promote his favorite low cal cocktail, which he aptly called, The Skinny Bitch.

You will need:

Ice

Diet Coke (1 can)

1.5 oz Vodka

Mix, ingest, repeat and enjoy being the skinniest of all of your friends. Try flavored vodka for a fun twist.

Total Calories: 55-69 (Vodka 55-69cals)

Tools

Another way to rack up the calories is over pouring when mixing a drink. My dear friend, Erica Seversen, bought me the solution to this problem in the form of a handy glass (pictured below). This is a take anywhere glass with hashmarks to denote ounces and it lists recipes for a variety of go to drinks (margarita, cosmo, long island ice tea etc.). Even if you are making an alternate recipe, it is a good guide. Awesome! I highly recommend getting one.

Out on the Town

If you will be out and about this weekend, look for bars/restaurants with low cal drink options. A few ideas in Chicago are “The Big H” at The Fat Cat http://www.fatcatbar.com/ and the low cal Mojito at Sushi Samba Rio. It also never hurts to ask your bartender if they have diet tonic for a healthy G & T. You may get a dirty look, but it never hurts to ask. Even ordering a “Skinny Bitch” will save you the 100 calories you would ingest in a regular coke.

There is your peek into the next of the Skinny literary masterpieces, I hope you find these tips as useful as I have…..Hey, at least we will be skinny when we run into each other at rehab! Cheers!

* The number of images that show up when Googling “Lindsay Lohan” drunk is rather impressive ….
